They have some similarities and many differences which is why its a good film to compare it to.For example, skyfall shows a posh, higher end of London while Ill manors shows a poorer, different side to it.

Is there anything you can learn from this case study? What could you add to your own case study after looking at someone else's work?

I can learn alot from this as the information is good, yes there are some questions missing. I would add more information, more detail and think more about what to say on my work.

the name of the film is the Inbetweeners, the director is Ben Palmer and the main stars are Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas.

When was it released?
2011
What genre is the film? What are the generic conventions that tell you the film belongs to this genre?
The genre is comedy. Having a comedy film makes the audience want to watch the film as many people like comedy films. You can tell that its a comedy by the name. Its a play on words and the characters don't look like they belong in a horror film. They look like they belong in a comedy which they do.

What was the critical reception? What is the film rated on IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes?
The film was rated on IMDB which shows it had good ratings and wanted to show that it was a good film. The ratings are a 6.8 out of 10 stars. This is just slightly over half ratings that they have gotten.

Broadcast

Write a close-textual analysis of the trailer using the MIGRAIN key concepts of Media Studies.

There are many key things that are going on in the trailer.
M- There are some media language being used here. There arent many theories being used as there is no disequilibrium/equilibrium. This is because its a comedy and they wanted to keep it that way.
I-The institution is that
G-The genre is British comedy.
R-There are some representations here. You have the representations of normal 18 year old teenagers. They act wild, silly and want to get there way. This is also a bit of a stereotype as this is what people think that teenagers do.
A-The audience would have been teenagers or young adults as they would like ton watch something funny and something that they can relate to.
I-There are some ideologies behind this as there aren't many political views to say
N-The narrative of this story is four young adults taking a break from school to go on a holiday in Spain. They have a good time, act silly and have fun.

Find examples of television promotion on YouTube (adverts, chat shows, ‘red carpet’ interviews etc.) and post them to your blog along with an explanation of how these promote the film.

They are telling everyone about their film and how successful it was and what they did etc. This is an interview.

This is  a premier screening on the red carpet. They are also doing an interview and making sure that they are talking about the movie etc.
"hysterically funny"-telegraph
"spring-break British style" -rotten tomatoes
"the ultimate lads film"-the daily film

Find examples of print promotion (e.g. film poster, billboard adverts etc.) on Google images and post them to your blog along with an explanation of how these promote the film.

Choose ONE print advert and write a textual analysis of what it communicates to the audience.

This tells the audience whose going it be in the film and that its going to be full of fun as the background looks colourful etc. The way this is set out you can tell its going to be a comedy film because of the colours and the actors facial expressions and what they are wearing. This looks like its going to be set  a another country as there are lots of neon lights and neon colours being used. You may think its in a place in Spain or Ibiza.

How is the film’s brand constructed? What does the brand connote? Does it remind you of any other brands or similar films?

The film doesnt remind of many films as there many different films that different to each other. For example if i had to pick films that were similar i would think of Hangovers, the equal to this a T.v programme called Benidorm and the programme The Inbetweeners.

E-media

Research the film’s presence on social media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. How does the film’s social media presence help promote the film?

On instagram there are some fan pages of this film and of the characters and of there T.V show. This makes their fans keep in touch with all of their shows and films. On Facebook there is a page where people can like and comment on it.

Did the film run any kind of e-media based campaign to generate interest in the films?
I dont think the film had any e-media based campaign as its not that famous in a sense that its hollywood.

give examples of the two-step flow theory online – did celebrities or journalists tweet or post about the film in order to promote it to their followers?
Simon bird the main character did tweet and ask his fans to watch the film as he wanted to get more of an audience.

Audience

Who is the target audience for this film? Demographics and psychographics.
The target audience is ages 15 and above. They wanted to target mainly teenagers as they wanted to make sure that they get that part of the audience right. By having a target audience they can narrow down what type of things they like and what they do and then see how they can promote it. Mainly people who are in the strugglers and  group would enjoy this film as they are the type to watch films that funny, casual and not to expensive.

What audience pleasures does the film provide? Think about the BFI lecture on audience pleasures in British film.
The pleasures that this film provides is that its funny and its purpose is to make people laugh. Its a film that everyone should enjoy and watch and be interested in.

What similar films would the target audience enjoy? Justify your suggestions.
The films that they would watch are the sequel to this film, inbetweeners 2. They would watch Angus thongs and perfect snogging, Shaun of the dead, Bridget Jones diary and Paul and many more. This is because having a good British comedy film to watch is what people want to see and watch.

They have done many many films and they have been a success.

What was the budget for the film?

£3,500,000

How successful was the film financially? Why do you think this was?
It made $35,955 this is good as it went over the estimated budget. This is good as they had to make sure that the audience watched the film more and needed to get that profit.

This film was more successful in the UK as a British audience are more used to them and get their humour and have probably seen many other shows with the actors in it.

What certificate was the film given (12A, 18 etc.)? What was the reason for this certificate? Is the certification important for this film in terms of targeting its audience? Why?

The certificate that was given was an 18. This is because there in some explicit content that is on the film. And by giving it this certificate makes people know that it will contain this.
