They always have something to offer everyone from there signature glazed doughnuts to a strawberry dream filled doughnut.they usually sell them as dozens as they like them to have a variety of different flavours in one tray or they can pick and choose which ones they would like.there brand is always recognised as its an american like brand which Britain doesn't really have.

The shots

Medium close up
This shot shows us that they are trying to communicate with us through the way they are quite close. We can see that these girls are happy/find something funny as they are grinning and have their hand on their chest which shows me that the are friendly and find something funny. We can see what there wearing from the shoulders above. We can also see some of the scene in the background.

Long shot
It shows us thta we can see the whole body of the person. We can see what they are wearing, how they are standing and what they are holding and see the scene they are in.We can see that hes wearing a bold red cape with armour and holding a big hammer. When they shoot a shot like this we are meant to see everything that is going on the picture. We can see in the background other characters and we can see that he's standing on a log and that are in the woods/forest as we can see trees at the back.

Low angle
We can see their emotions as they are looking down at the camera. We can see that this character is dressed as spider man.We can see that he's holding his mask maybe hes wondering about something and is deciding about his identity. He looks worried and confused.

Extreme close up
We can see what they are looking at and see their emotions. As this character is wearing glasses we can see what they are looking at and what there eyes are showing us.We can see that he looks scared/worried as he is looking across to another person. We  can see slightly that its raining in the background. We cant see his whole face but we don't need to in order to see how he's feeling.

Close up
This shows us that we can see their whole face and emotions. The colours on the character really stands out and makes her bold and pretty. The close up is meant to make us see what they look like and how their emotion is on their face.As you can see she looks happy/smirked.

Medium shot
This shows that we can see their movement and the emotions. We can see that she looks flustered and weary about what's happening. As the close up we can see thier emotion and what they are wearing. She's wearing a black coat and has bow arrows on her back. This shows me that she's hunting or doing something.

Extreme long shot
We can see what's happening from afar and see what  the scenery i.You can see that there is an unkown person on a motorbike coming towards the camera. They are on a road where a train underneath them is going pass. This looks like this was shot recently in a forest/main road.

Learner response

WWW: Some good work that shows you are recalling and building on the work you did in GCSE

Media a couple of years ago. Your 50 Cent RBK advert analysis contains some thoughtful points.

EBI: Blog formatting is poor in places - text not possible to read. You need to check and improve this.
Some of your posts lack depth and detail - that is so crucial at A Level. Your Shreddies analysis is a good example - most of what you write is simply describing the advert (or denotation) rather than analysing it (connotation).
Your media consumption post is worrying - far too many errors (interent?) and apparently you watch 200-500 hours of TV a week? Are you sure? This is lazy so early in the year...

LR: Reflect on your first month of AS Media. What is your strongest piece of work so far? What is your weakest? What specific skills or knowledge do you need to develop over the rest of the course?

LR: I think my strongest piece of work is probably the poster analysis the 50 cent one. This is because there was so much detail in the poster that i could write about it and analyse it in more depth than some of my other work.I think my weakest was the Shreddies as this was the first task i had to do alone and as i did media a while ago its taking time to get used to and remember what to do and what to analyse.I need to re knowledge myself on the media key words and remeber all the camera work and camera shots etc.

Film Noir Analysis

In this image you can see high key lighting on the man face to show who they are and what they are watching. There is a typical femme fatal that is wearing a provocative dress with gloves with a cigarette in her hand. She's blown the cigarette out on his face which shows that she's got the power in the relationship that they have.Normally the male would be doing this type of behaviour to show that he's masculine and doesn't take orders from the female or they would use there hand to move the smoke out of the way.The woman has also got a glass of alcohol in her hand. This shows me that she isn't portrayed as the typical feminine character females tend to be.The man seems to be smirking at what the lady is doing. This could mean that he knows she's playing games on him or he doesn't mind someone blowing smoke on his face. There is some back-light on the lady to show what she's wearing and she has some top lighting on the side of her face to show the audience what she looks like, even if you cant see her full face. There is also light on the cigarette smoke to show what and who the smoke is affecting.

Bogey and Bacall film noir opening

In the opening scene you can see silhouette of  the butler opening the door showing back lighting gave the effect of a mystery. When the door has been opened the main character comes inside wearing a hat and you can only see half of their face, this also showing us that he doesn't want to be identified until a bit later. You can see the main character a female wearing a silky dressing gown. This shows that she's might be an interesting character with the male character. The man carries a female body not telling us what has happened and we can only guess that she has fainted or had an accident. The man then just chucks her onto the bed not caring if she will wake up or get hurt. There was top-lighting on both the male and females characters, this si to make them more glamorous. The female then checks if the woman is breathing and this shows signs of a typical female being a caring character.Towards the end a light flashes in their face to highlight their emotions and what there facial expressions.

Cover work

  1. Research the terms 'high-brow' and 'low-brow'. What do they refer to? How can we apply them to the main TV channels?
High brow means being highly cultured or intellectual for e.g newspapers and documentaries.
Low brow means having little interest in culture and intellectual for e.g magazines and television.

Research the term 'public service broadcasting'. What does it refer to? How does it influence what appears on the main five channels?

Public service broadcasting is when TV programmes are broadcast for the public benefit rather than for commercial purposes. the main five t.v programmes are The BBC,channel 4, S4C ,channel 3 and channel 5.

BBC1

BBC One's remit is to be the BBC's most popular mixed-genre television service across the UK, offering a wide range of high-quality programmes. A very high proportion of its programmes should be original productions. The BBC 1  tries to fit in with the crowd and be multi-cultural company because they need to cater for everyone. They  have to fit in with the genres like drama, comedy and entertainment. There are many t.v shows that come on here like Eastenders, holby city and the bbc news.I think it fits in with working class and ages between 16 yrs onwards.

BBC2

There is  variety of genres being showed on here. They have programmes that adds to your knowledge and way of thinking. Some programmes that appear on here are Cash in the attic, Eggheads and a documentary on penguins lives.I think these are aimed for older people as you wouldn't really see 16 year old watching a documentary on penguins they would probably rather watch EastEnders would say the target audience is for mid 20's-60 year old.

ITV

ITV has been around for many years and some new and old shows still appear on this channel. Many T.V shows appear on this channel like Coronation street, X-factor, I'm a celebrity get me out of here etc. They have a range of genres like drama, real life stories etc.I think the target audience is for working-class between the ages of 16-40 year old would watch these.

Channel 4

Channel 4 mainly focuses on soaps and entertainment. Some programmes that are on here are Hollyoaks, Deal or no deal, come dine with me and many more.Channel 4 launched in 1982 there job was to inform and entertain the younger generation and older generation.they wanted to do both audience to keep the range wide enough.I think the audience would be for young teenager so 15-21 year old and then older from 28 years onwards.

Channel 5

The programmes that appear on channel 5 are soaps like Neighbours,Home and Away,Big brother, and early in the morning they show kids programmes at breakfast like Milkshakes, Thomas and the tank engine on weekdays. This shows they like to cater for young children and adults.Channel 5 was launched in 1991 and has been around for 23 years.Channel 5 would fall under the low brow category as its not really appealing to the older generation and only younger people really watch Big Brother etc.I think channel 5 mainly do target 16-40 years old even though they play kids programmes they aren't shown during the day.
