Plan B representation

Forms

How is it typical of a music video?
this is a typical rap song as they rapping about something important to them. The video has gang like people and their clothes are of that as well. Most rap songs dress like this with hoodies, tracksuits, hats etc. This song is catchy and has a good beat to it. This important as the audience need to like this song and sing along to it. If they made a music video that no one listened to then it would be bad. No one would want to buy the track or watch the film if the song doesn't go with it or sounds good. Most people do listen to this type of music and having this is will attract to alot of people.

Representation

How does it represent the London riots/rioters?
It represent London as plan b is from London. He is a British man getting his views across through music. In 2012 there was riots happening as a young man lost his life and as he was a member of gang and was well-known everyone got involved and wanted to speak out and the way they did this was by shoplifting, crime and rioting. There are a few clips shown of the London riots and clips of the young people in the video shouting and being violent towards others. Showing this in a video clip is a way that Plan B wanted to get voice across and wanted to show everyone what was happening. The riots were portrayed as a bad thing as it did get out of control but the government know how to  handle these situations if it happens again.

Audience

What audience pleasures does it offer?
It offers tom the audience to listen this song and listen to it. It makes their target audience relate to the song and enjoy watching what its about. by the target audience seeing what its about they might understand that some peoples lives are hard and dont get many opportunities like other people. This song would be good for Plan B if the song is a huge hit as then Plan B will be getting alot of profit that this song would be making and he will be getting a positive outcome from his audience as hes doing this film and songs for them so he can show them that they have options in what they do and that they can be better.

Institutions

How does the music video help to promote the film?
The music video helps promote it as many films dont have music videos with a film. This makes the film stand out from the other films and makes people want to buy it and listen to the music with the video. Some people may have not heard Plan B's music and may want to try listening to it. It would be a  big risk as no one wants to waste money. If they brought the film first to hear some of the music on the film and enjoyed it then they would then buy the soundtrack aswell. By having a soundtrack and a film then it would make the audience want to buy it and listen to it.

The main characters may appear ion my front cover. I may not put my three main characters on the cover as i want my cover to show mystery. i haven't full decided yet.

I am going to use my main character for the double page spread. I want use them inside the magazine as i want it to show the information on the inside and not the outside. As i don't want the audience to see what's going on.

shot list i may use:

  • Close-up
  • medium shot
  • medium close- up
  • long shot
  • extreme close-up

I wont need any props. I may just use what the characters are wearing. I may need car keys as my character is getting killed i want to show what might happen.

i don't need to do much preparation so i will just make sure that i know what i am going to shoot and take it from there.

Notes:

  • Kicked out of school in yr 10
  • met people with same problems
  • had no respect for teachers, police
  • didn't listen to anyone
  • listened to underground music
  • words guided them-negative words
  • conscious hip-hop
  • change things
  • kids killing each other -from broken families
  • alot of kids get abused
  • went on a journey
  • decided to write an album
  • wanted to show off different meanings
  • ready to ,make ill manors
  • no one would back him
  • already made a film on a small budget
  • fund some talented kids in school
  • say that "chav" is a rude word to use against underclass people
  • media demonises young people
  • trying not to be naive.

Plan B does have many views and beliefs. He admitted that when he was younger he didn't have any interest in the government or teachers and dint like them at all. He believes that the way  he was brought up doesn't have to happen to all young children he wants to make sure that they all get chances that he never got. He believes that kids should be treated equally and fairly. He wants to  make sure that teacher and government give them these opportunities that he never got so that they can turn their life around before it get too late.he says that if people get involved and take their time to help children like this then less crime and gangs would go on.

i think that Plan B is aiming his speeches at upper class people. This is because with them knowing and having some background knowledge about the government and stuff they can help the kids that need help. they will use their money and effort to help these kids as everyone wants t live in world where they don't need to watch their back. This aimed at 20-35 year olds. This is because they will know what's going on and what type of things they can talk about and they are old enough to know what's right or wrong and help children. the film ill manors is portrayed a s a bad film but this is doesn't so that people can be aware what really goes on and how young people start from.

Plan B says that media portrays te negative sides of things. For example, if there was a story about a drug dealer accidentally giving drugs to small kid then trying to take it back and the kid falls, then in the media the drug dealer would have deliberately given the kid drugs then tried to kill him. They leave out the small details so that they can get stories and make sure that the gangs and crime is always going to be portrayed in bad ways.

Analysing Doctor Who magazine

Heading- The main heading is "doctor who". This is the name of the programme and its going to be known for this. Having this tells the audience what they will be reading about and what programme its going to be about. This is good as they can see if they want to read about it if they haven't already or if they have seen the T.V programme. The title is bold and stands out in a metallic colour behind the main chaarcters in the show. They havent got a name of the magazine that it is. This is because its a souviner magazine and it can be its own branded magazine.

Slogan- The slogan is "the day of the doctor" this is a catchy sentence as something that you can repeat and it will stick in your head. Its a sentence that makes you want to read on and see what its about. Its done in bold so it stands out from the image. Its in the centre so you cant miss it and it kind of tells the audience what its going to be about.

Central Image- the central image is of the doctor and the previous doctor and another person. This is quite good as many people who are interested in this will know these characters and would want to see what its about. the previous doctor would have changed into the new one so the audience would be thinking what's going on. The central person is Matt Smith as he is the recent doctor and he's the main character. He plays a big role so he would be centre.

Bar code- The bar code shows the price of the magazine. This is necessary as many magazines don't come free and this one is here to tell the audience to buy it. They show the date which makes the regular customers know what issue they are buying every week etc.

Colour scheme- The colour scheme is grey in the background. This is a bold colour that makes the font and central image stand out out of the magazine. The colour is quite gloomy so it fits the sci-fi scheme. The colour scheme is important as if there was no colour scheme in the background there would be nothing to seek. It would be plain.

Competition- In the bottom right corner there is a prize for doctor who fans. This is to attract there audience to come and but the magazine and then they can see if they can win these things. The target auwince would want to buy this as they would want to take part in a competititon to see if they can win. Having a comeptetion for customers to take part in will make the magazine more interesting and would be more exciting for them.

Language- The  language is done well. Its done in English and has some sci-fi language too as they are targeting people that interested in sci-fi. The language has to be understandable and made sure that its clear and that the right language is aimed at the right audience.

Font- The font overall is bold, large, medium and is clear to see. The font is either done in black or white and red. These are colours that are associated with sci-fi. The font is made to be clear as they need to makes sure that their audience can see it and that i its readable and that its done in the right colour.

Learner response

Identify the key narrative techniques used in the trailer?

In the trailer many key narrative techniques are used. For example, you can see that there is allot of motivation in this clip. You can see the paralympic people looking determined and that they have allot to fight for. They don't treat themselves as disabled people and think they cant achieve alot just because they have a disability. They are trying to show others disabled people that they can do things if they had the motivation and put their mind to it. The shots of the trailer are fast paced which shows determination. Having the crowd noises builds that tension up aswell which makes it better for them. Hearing the crowd cheer must makes them feel invincible as its something that they would have always wanted to do. Showing them train shows that they had to take alot of training enable to do the paralympics. The camera and lighting were shown on each of the paralympic players to show who were playing. The audience would feel interested in this as its not every day T.V and would have wanted to do alot to make sure it wasn't like Big Brother.
They make sure that there sports isn't an obstacle. They make sure that they can face it and try it and then keep trying until they get the hang of it and they can do it right. They see having a disability as not a bad thing but as a good thing as they can do most things without certain parts of their bodies. Many people cant cope with a leg or arm missing but they can and they embrace that they have a disability.

Planning of Ill manors

KEY POINTS
EVIDENCE FROM FILM
YOUR OPINION
Director – who is it and what else have they directed that you heard of?
·          Plan B directed the film
He is a rapper artist from Britain.

I think the director did a good job of filming for the first time. For his first film this was a good hit.
Main Starswho are they? Will people be familiar with them already? What are they known for?
·         Riz ahmed is like the good guy.
Ed skrien- is his mate that is bad but then turns good slightly.
Keef coggins- he’s a bad guy that is the head of all the drugs and is the bad one.
I think the actors acted really well. As they are upcoming actors they had to try their best and make sure that they were doing well and making it look realistic.
PlotWhat is the film about?
The film is about two different groups that know each other and they are drug dealers that need and get money. There’s one character that tries and be good in all of this. Towards the ends some of the main guys die and the good one moves away from all of this bad behaviour.
The plot was kind of obvious about what was going to happen. It made sure that it was done well and that it was a stereotypical type of film. As when drugs, crime and prostitutes are involved you know that they are either going to die, seek help or get in trouble with the police. The police aren't shown much in the film which shows that people do these things under there noses and they get away with it most of the time.
Characterswho are the main ones and which actors play them? Comment on the quality of the acting
·         Riz ahmed ios the good one. All of the characters went to a care home as kids so they have always been doing these drugs from a young age as no one was there to guide them. Ed is Riz’s friend.

The charcters in the film did a good job of acting like younger people, and got into the role really quickly as they are just actors.
Genre – what type of film is it? Does it fit your expectations for this type of film? How would you describe the mood?
         This is an urban/drama film.

Urban drama film
SoundtrackDid you notice/like/dislike it? How did it create atmosphere?
The songs are rapped by the director Plan B.
They go with the film as he telling the story in it.

The soundtrack was ok. It was mainly rapped and it was telling us each story every time.

AudienceWho is it aimed at? And do you recommend it? Why?
the audience is aimed at 18-27 year olds as this is a good age for teenagers and adults to see what happens around London etc.

This is aimed at 18-27 year olds as they are old enough to understand what happens.

Production Progress

We have done quite a bit of filming so far. We started filming on Tuesday in our frees and continued until thursday. The next time we fim will be on tuesday as we have a double free then. On wedbnesday we filmed during luch and used our double lesson aswell. We got the end of the scnene done which was good as that was a bit difficult as that was the scene that would require most attention as its only the main charcater. We filmed the scene where after the jealoius girl wakes up she hears that sophia has died and seems distressed and worried about it. We didnt have many issues as we had the camera and things. but when we were filming we couldnt get the camera straight as it had to focus on  atext message that the jealous girl was going to read. We then made a msitake as the text read "cae" instead of "car".  This sint a big issue as we can redo the shot of it. We dont have much left to film it might take us a week-weekn in a half to film the rest then we can focus on the editing and making sure that thats really good. We did some filming today of the couple walking. We had to make sure that this was done properly and we had to film it loads of times in order to get it right.

Opinion on Ill Manors

I think that Ill Manors was a really good film. I enjoyed watching it and it was interesting as gangs and people do these kinds of things. The film was different to what i usually watch in a film. As this film was about drugs, crime, gangs and prostitutes you normally know or guess what’s going to happen or what it’s about. This is because when you see the cover you can see a young man holding a gun and kind of guess what its going to be about. Having to watch a film out of my comfort zone was good as i got to see what happens in other parts of London and maybe in the area that i live in. Having to watch this film was an eye-opener as i got see how certain people live and how they make money as most of them don’t have a job as they sell drugs or the women sell themselves.

I think the purpose of the story is to warn us what happens in places an to people that you think are good. The owner of the pub in the story had a pub and a wife but he still went with a prostitute. This tells me that anything happens when you are involved with gangs or people like that. Some people can get away from this stuff. The young kid that wanted to act older and hang around with Marcel couldn't get away from it. He had to do what he was told otherwise he would get shot. He had to shoot the main drug dealer but instead he shot another person’s drug dealers sister and he shot the person he was told to. In the end he dies and so does Marcel. This shows that people can’t get out of these things as once you start it never ends. It goes in a circle every time. I think the actors in the film did a really good job of fitting into those characters. The film looked realistic and as it was set in London so it wasn't your typical big British film. This was done as if it was a T.V show.  They made it in this way as they didn't want it to seem like a surreal film they wanted to make sure that it was realistic otherwise it wouldn't be that realistic.

Having a British urban drama makes it stand out from the crowd as films nowadays aren't about this kind of lifestyle. The actors played good part as Aaron (Riz Ahmed) played a good/bad boy type of role. He was a brought up in care home where his friend Ed was from. They knew each other from then. He was bad as he smoked and sold drugs and stuff but you could tell that he wanted to help and he helped by trying to save the prostitute from getting hurt, he helped the baby that he found and then he decided to move away from all of this crime when Ed died. This was different as this showed me that not all gang members or drug users can be bad, bad. They can be good sometimes. Having a good character in the film makes the audience take a step back and think about these things. I enjoyed the film overall as it’s not something that i would have thought to be interested in. It’s different to an American/British good film. As this was done on a low budget it was pretty good for how much money they spent on it. I'm surprised that this was done like this as you can’t tell that it was done on a low budget and the cast weren't known. I think that Riz Ahmed is known in a few films but they are upcoming normal people. Plan B who directed and sang the songs in the film did a good job as this was the first film that he directed and he starred in it at the end slightly. He had done a good job for a first time film.

Ill Manors trailer

  • What are the typical codes and conventions of film trailers - what information is usually provided?
  • How are trailers distributed
  • How does the Ill Manors trailer use trailer conventions?
  • Who is the target audience? Does it have a unique selling point or use particular techniques to appeal to the audience? Consider the way the scenes are edited together – does the trailer give away any clues about the narrative? Are the main stars visible in the trailer? Is there information about the director of the film? Is there information about the release date? Is a narrator’s voice-over used? Why?
  • How has the genre of the film been represented through characters, settings, lighting, colour, music/dialogue, camera shots/movements/angles and editing?

  • in a trailer basic information is shown. That they have the right information but make sure that alot isn't shown so that it can be intriguing for the audience that its aimed at. Its made sure that the film is shown in a short clip then sometimes reviews, and a voice over are shown and are explained. In this trailer there wasn't a clear idea of who the main character is. This could be because there isn't a an actual main character and that there are multiple people that are involved in one thing. This would make they audience feel different as there isn't a clear main character and they may feel intrigued and would want to watch it.

Trailers are distributed in many ways. They are shown on T.V and YouTube, cinema and online websites. I think these are the main ways that a trailer is shown as they have to make sure that they are seen and heard as they wont link together.

Ill Manors use key conventions in varied ways. These ways are Ill Manors have a wide bad target audience. I think they are aimed at 16-27 year olds and are aimed at working class people. I think this because young teenagers would want to see a film like this even though its an 18 most younger people do get there hands on it to watch it. They are aimed at working class as when they get home form work or having a day off they can watch a urban British film that they may of have not seen. I think that it does have a unique selling point even though its the audience kind of know what's going to happen by watching the trailer as it is also a bit stereotypical they would still want to see  it as sometimes this life could come across as exciting to some part of the audience as its something they may have done, or seen people in or could have done. So they could easily relate to it. As its a trailer the clip is shown in short fast shots. This pace goes with the music as well and makes sure that its fast but you can see what's going on and can understand. This is edited really well and it looks really realistic, as its based on real life as this drugs, prostitution crime stuff does happen still. In the scenes you can see what's going on. You can see guns, drugs, prostitutes, children, gangs etc. So the narrative is clear about what's going to happen. Its clear what's going to happen as its quite obvious that they get caught or die or even seek help which is what happens.

The genre of the film has been shown in different ways. For example, its been shown through the shots that are done. You have close-ups and medium shots of the main characters so you can see what's going on. You can see their reactions, emotions, what they say etc. The camera work is done realistically and is done well you cant tell that its low budget film. The props as well tell me what type of film this will be as they dressed like hoodrats and in typical jeans, trainers, hoodies, snap backs etc. The women are dressed provocative as they are meant to be prostitutes so they have dress like that. The music in the background that sometimes happen is a rap of what the story is about as they try to make the audience understand it.n The lighting in the film is done well. They have used mostly natural light as this was filmed at night. day time and indoors. This is good as this is British low budget film they cant have all these lights as it wouldn't work with the genre of the film. For example, if they were filming in a alley way, they couldn't have lots of light in the dark as it wouldn't work.
