Ill Manors print branding

What are the key conventions that help you identify the print text (e.g. title, central image, review quotes etc.)?

The central image is there with one of the main characters in the film. There is the name of the film in front of the main character which shows that hes the main person. You have the name of the director which is Plan B/ Ben Drew. Its telling us who created the film a upcoming film maker who was a artist. You have the logo of BBC which says that its a British film. The colours are mainly dark and white. This shows that this film isn't going to have alot of character and colour in it as it wouldn't fit in with the theme

What design features help identify the Ill Manors brand?

the main character is on the front. He is holding a gun so its creating adrenaline as its something we don't see alot and that you can sense something is going to happen. The background is dark and gloomy which kind of creates the weather of London and its shows that this film is more filmed at midday/night time. the film isnt meant to be a happy, enjoyful film its a thriller/drama kind of film that is seen by people who are interested in these types of movies. You can see many tall buildings of flats behind him which tells us that this is set in an estate area or is based around there.

What examples of synergy can you find with the broadcast platform or other print examples?
That this is more identical to the one below. They show the main chacter which is good eventhough the main charcters are spread overtime to make it equal so you dont really see or know the main charcter. He is the good charcter which shows that he is the centre of attention.

What are the key conventions that help you identify the print text (e.g. title, central image, review quotes etc.)?

I can see that there is a main image of a main character in the film poster. The text is similar to the CD cover. But you have quotes from people that have commented about the film for example, "brilliant","an absolute must see". These are the types of quotes that would be attracted to an audience that would want to watch this film. they need this to be a film that people would wan to see. By having the star rates is another way to to do that.

What design features help identify the Ill Manors brand?

There are many design features that can help identify the Ill Manors brand. There is a central image of a main character already plastered on there and there is the name/logo of the film too that helps people identify. There are credits at the end which is how you can tell its a movie poster. Its also a wide piece of paper so its in a poster format. these types of posters would be around the cinema, around streets where youths go etc.

What examples of synergy can you find with the broadcast platform or other print examples?

I can find out that this is more or less te same image and text as the DVD disc cover at the top. This showas that they didnt think too much on changing the concept to different types of images. Having this makes it easier for the audicence to recognise.

What are the
key conventions that help you identify the print text (e.g. title, central image, review quotes etc.)?
This image isnt really represnenting the film that much. It representing Plan Bs album that goes with the film Ill Manors. This is a billboard for everyone to see when they are walking or driving past. This is there as many people who hang around on the streets can see this and be attracted to it as they would want to see it. You have the central image which is Plan B smoking with his hoodie on which shows that hes trying to relate to the younger audiences by what hes wearing and where hes sitting. Hes sitting on a big wall which has a sillouette of london behind him.

What design features help identify the Ill Manors brand?

There are some features that help Ill Manors stand out. For example the brand name itself is one way. By knowing what the film is shows that Ill manors can be known. The main image is of Plan B only which shows that he wanted to be known for being the director and the artist of this film. Hes showing the british audinece what he can achieve. The picture is dull. Its in black and white and shows features of red  in the billboard. You can see some writing of when the film/soundtrack is out. The whole point of this is that Plan B tells the audince that hes Ben Drew when hes directing and Plan B when hes doing music.

What examples of synergy can you find with the broadcast platform or other print examples?
I can find that there are other parts of broadcasts that are there for example, this billboard shows Plan B smoking with the colours of red, white and black around to show that hes bad and that to show hes going to be attracted to the teenage target audience.

1) What does this tell us about Plan B's intentions in making the film?

Plan B had good intentions in making the film. He wanted to make the film as he wanted to show people what life was like on the streets of East London. He felt good about wanting to make the film and he eventually got allowed to do it.

2) What do we learn about the production process for Ill Manors?

We learn that Plan b and his crew had to make some decisions in making the film. They had to travel and move to different places whilst making the film. They got forced to move places and got into some trouble because they were in somebody else's space. So they did struggle a bit.

3) What can you tell about the possible target audience from this short documentary?

I can see that target audience could be aimed at people who interested in gangs etc. but Ed said that its not aimed at the rioters its aimed at the people who weren't involved in the riots so they can see what children/people get into at a young age and feel something towards it.

Identify the target audience for this interview (demographics/psychographics) and say why.

SBTV was made in 2006. Its a music based place that helps young aspiring people get featured on their website and most of the footage is unprofessional as it has to be done on a low budget so they don't have enough money to buy proper equipment. The target audience is mainly aspiring urban singers/ rappers. This is because there is mainly rap songs shown on the show which is why they are mostly attracted to it.

2) What is the audience appeal for an interview like this? How does the opening of the clip emphasise this appeal?

The audience would probably be young people, as they are the main people that are interested in this type of things. Most young teenagers listen to rap and sing nowadays. The openi9ng of the clip is very entertaining-ts quite funny which makes people want to watch it.

3) How is Plan B (the brand) represented in this text?

Plan B is represented as a hard-working, street smart and influential person. This is because he wants to do what's best for the teenagers that don't get many opportunities and that are forgotten about because they are cast as bad people.

1) What is the history of the Jonathan Ross show? What channels has it appeared on? Why has Jonathan Ross been a controversial media figure in the past?

Jonathan Ross show was first aired in 2011.It was shown on ITV and he has met loads of people that have been shown on this show before. It has been a controversial show before because he spoke about prince William and harry to fearne and made horrible remarks about Thatcher.

2) Identify the target audience for this interview (demographics/psychographics) and say why.

There are many target audiences. As the Jonathan Ross show attracts middle aged middle class and working class people. They would watch this. If they knew Plan B was appearing on the show then maybe teenagers and underclass people would watch the show too. The show is there to open people but only a few people from certain classes watch this show.

3) What is the audience appeal for a programme like the Jonathan Ross show?

Plan B is represented in many ways. He seen as a rapper and a director in some people eyes and because of his rap career he seen in a bad light sometimes because of the music he raps about. He raps about things that bother him and tries to tell a story so that everyone can hear and understand it. The only people that understand are teenagers.

Double page spread idea

Conscience
Come and meet the cast of brand new E4 teen drama Conscience. Come and see what they say and how filming for their new hit T.V series went.

How did you come across this role?
Sophia: I came across it by the social media.
Umer: Actually a guy i know had auditioned for this role and told me to try as well. I didn't think i would have got it though!
Alison: Oh yes! Same as me someone told me about the role and thought I should try it out. It was only meant to be a bit of fun.

How long did it take to film? Was it tiring?
Alison: It was quite a struggle sometimes as it was tiring and long.
Sophia: it took about 2-4 months as this is a first time show for all of us and this is a new show that is going on E4  so we had to make sure it was perfect.

Was it difficult to film the car crash scene?
Alison: It was a bit difficult to shoot the car crash scene as we didn’t know exactly what goes where.
Umer: It was a bit stressful at times as we had to make it look realistic and look like she was dead.
Sophia: Hahaha! yep it was annoying playing dead for 3 weeks but we got it right in the end which is the main thing.

Have you always been interested in being actors?
Umer: I haven’t really been interested in being an actor. Yes, the role did kind of fall into my lap but I have always worked hard to get to where I am and I did try a lot in this role.
Sophia: I have always been interested in being an actor. I just didn't think it would come true. I have been let down before and now when i finally i get a part, its so surreal.

What will happen after this? Have you got any other roles?
Alison: Erm, no not at the moment as Conscience is still getting recognised so I will have to wait to see what happens.
Sophia: Yes, I have a new role in an upcoming film. II won’t be the main character but it’s something that’s going to be really good.
Umer: I haven’t got anything lined up yet. But a few T.V shows are willing for me to join so I will have to see. It is a fantastic opportunity.

Did you think Conscience would be this successful?
Alison: No I didn't think this would be as successful as everyone said.
Umer: yep, I thought it would be like any other teen drama shows.
Sophia: we were pretty surprised at it but its good that we didn't have high expectations so we wouldn't get let down if it didn’t meet that. But it went way above that!

Thank you, very much for coming and talking with me. It was great meeting all of you.
ALL; and you! Its been a pleasure.
Thanks and good luck!
